Guided rail trails

In partnership with the Ramblers, the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) and the Millennium Way Group, the Heart of England CRP has launched 36 Rail Trails to encourage people to use the railways to access leisure opportunities and to explore their local areas.

As part of Community Rail Week 2023, we are holding 3 free guided walks with local tour guide Verity Tiff using the Rail Trails from the 23 – 27 May. The walks on offer are below and you can register for the walks online through this link, or by scanning the QR code.

Leamington guided walks

Tuesday 23 May, 10am – 3pm: Leamington

Meeting at Leamington Station and following the Grand Union Canal and then the River Leam, this trail takes you into the surrounding countryside to the village of Offchurch. On your route you can explore the Leam Valley Local Nature Reserve and Newbold Comyn, as well as the renowned Jephson Gardens.

Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy halfway through the walk and make sure you wear clothing and shoes that are suitable to walking in the countryside. The walk is about 7miles so you do need to be comfortable walking this distance in the countryside.

Train going past landscapes

Saturday 27 May, 10am – 1pm: Coventry

Meet at Coventry Station to explore England’s 9th largest city on our 3 mile Rail Trail. Coventry is known for its industrial past (think cars, bicycles, and ribbons), Lady Godiva, and of course the devastating bombing in WWII which practically destroyed St Michael’s Cathedral., Coventry, today is a city of unsung art and culture.

This trail covers all the major sites packed into the centre of the city focussing on the heritage and history Coventry still puts on display. A stop at the Canal Basin will give walkers a chance to refresh and rehydrate at the Playwright’s Café.
